Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (31-45) came back from multiple deficits, but were unable to finish off the first place Reno Aces (48-28), falling in 12 innings on Ildemaro Vargas' game-winning single.

Sacramento's Will Toffey had game-tying RBI singles in the ninth and 10th innings to extend the game while right fielder Bryce Johnson powered the offense going 3-for-6 with a home run, two runs, and three RBIs.

The River Cats originally got out to a 4-1 lead thanks to home runs by their three outfielders.

Left fielder Joe McCarthy put the River Cats up in the second with his team-leading 14th home run of the season. Having already homered on Saturday, McCarthy has now hit home runs in back-to-back games four times this season.

After Reno tied things up at one, Jaylin Davis retook the lead with his ninth home run in 20 games. Four batters later, Johnson made it a 4-1 Sacramento lead with a two-run home run.

Right-hander Gerson Garabito (0-3, 5.29) draws the start for game five on Monday against a Reno TBD. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. (PT). Listen online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Rehabbing Giants right-hander Reyes Moronta got the start, striking out two in an inning. He now has four punch outs in 3.2 innings.

Aided by extra innings, Sacramento pitchers struck out a season-high 18 and walked 10.

The River Cats are now 0-5 in extra innings in 2021, with the five hour, three minute game surpassing the previous season-long (four hour, 30 minute defeat at Las Vegas on July 4).
