SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Reno Aces toppled the Sacramento River Cats, 8-7, in 12 innings at Sutter Health Park on Sunday afternoon.

With the Aces and the River Cats tied at five going into extras, Reno's newcomer Cooper Hummel unloaded on a 1-1 pitch in the 10th and smacked a two-run double to give the Biggest Little City's team a 7-5 advantage.

Sacramento battled back in the home half and put a two-spot on the board, knotting the game at seven and pushing the game into the 11th.

After a scoreless visiting half, the River Cats threatened to push a run across after moving the extra runner to third on a groundout. Left-handed batter Jason Vosler ripped a two-out liner into the Aces' right-side shift with Duzenack making a Superman-like catch to his right and saving a run from scoring.

Reno broke the 7-7 tie in the top of the 12th on a two-out RBI single to right by Vargas, lifting the visiting club to an 8-7 lead before Matt Gage came on to close out the game for his first save this season.

The Aces jumped to 18-6 in one-run games while also moving to 13-4 when erasing a deficit of three or more runs.

Henry Ramos put forth his 21st multi-hit game of the year, going 3-for-6 at the dish with a run scored and an RBI.

Nick Heath extended his hitting streak to five with his leadoff triple in the seventh. The Aces' outfielder recorded his fourth three-bagger of the season in his outing against the home club.

After a scoreless first frame and top of the second start the contest, Sacramento's Joe McCarthy hit a solo home run to give the River Cats an early 1-0 edge.

Reno quickly responded in the top of the third following a Duzenack leadoff single. With two outs, Vargas slapped a 1-1 pitch to center, bringing the Aces' lead runner around to score and knotting the game at one.

Both teams were held off the board until the River Cats put a three-spot on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Jaylin Davis hit a leadoff solo shot before Bryce Johnson drilled a two-run homer to right-center to give Sacramento a 4-1 advantage.

The Aces threatened in the top of the fifth putting Vargas and newcomer Hummel on first and second with back-to-back walks to start the frame. After chasing Sacramento's Matt Frisbee with no outs, Henry Ramos smacked an RBI double to left, scoring Vargas from second and slashing Sacramento's lead to two, 4-2. After Jamie Ritchie drove Hummel in on a sacrifice fly, 4-3, Ramos bolted down the third-base line to score on a wild pitch to deadlock the contest at four.

Blake Lalli's club continued to register hits and runs late in the contest, tacking on one tally on two base knocks in the seventh to take its first lead of the day. Following Nick Heath's second triple in as many games, Vargas drove in his second run of the game on a sacrifice fly to give Reno a one-run advantage, 5-4.

Reno continued to threaten through the final two frames, loading the bases in the eighth on three walks and putting runners on second and third with no outs in the ninth. Sacramento halted both Aces' threats before tying the contest at five in the ninth and forcing extras.

The Biggest Little City's team and the River Cats exchanged two runs in the 10th frame before Lalli's squad knocked off the host squad in the 12th with an RBI single by Vargas. Matt Gage tossed a perfect inning, striking out all three batters he faced to shut the door on Sacramento to win the game, 8-7.

The Aces will return to action against the River Cats on Monday with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. PT. Monday's contest can be heard on renoaces.com or locally on KPLY 630 AM with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
