WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento River Cats (44-26) improved to a season-best 18 games above .500 on Saturday with a 6-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers (37-29) at Raley Field. With the win, first-place Sacramento remains six-and-a-half games ahead of Tucson in the PCL South.
LHP John Rheinecker (6-4) dominated en route to earning his fifth consecutive victory. He allowed just 2 ER on 7 H in 7.0 IP. RHP Chris Mabeus closed the game and picked up his first save. LHP Craig Anderson (0-6) took the loss for Tacoma.
DH Graham Koonce and C Mike Rose led the River Cats' offense. Koonce hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Rose went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
The River Cats and Rainiers will play the third game of their four-game series on Sunday (1:05 pm) at Raley Field.
