Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento River Cats (33-43) fell to the El Paso Chihuahuas (39-37) by the final score of 12-6. After falling behind 9-1 early, the River Cats' comeback fell short as they dropped their eighth consecutive game.
River Cats starting pitcher Taylor Hill struck out just two batters and allowed three earned runs in four innings pitched, but did get some help from his defense as he ended the first and second innings with double plays.
After facing a 9-1 deficit, Sacramento chipped away with three runs in the fifth inning after a bloop RBI single by Kelby Tomlinson followed by an RBI double from Chris Shaw. The River Cats scored two more in the sixth after a single by Trevor Brown, who later scored on a wild pitch. However, that's all they could muster and eventually fell to the Chihuahuas 12-6.
The River Cats hit the road for a four-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes beginning on Monday. Casey Kelly (6-5, 5.03) takes the mound for the series opener. He'll face off with Albuquerque lefty David Holmberg (3-5, 5.54). First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m. (PT). Additional Notes
- Outside of Hill, every River Cats batter in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit, highlighted by a multi-hit game from Trevor Brown.
- River Cats pitchers allowed 19 hits to El Paso on Sunday, the most in a game this season for Sacramento.
- Despite a tough game, Shaw added his 14th double and team-leading 36th RBI of the season.
