June 24, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release
In Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, the Albuquerque Isotopes (38-36) hung on to beat the Fresno Grizzlies (45-29) 3-2 at Chukchansi Park. After coming within four outs of a no-hitter in his last start, Fresno starter Trent Thornton (5-5) took a hard-luck loss. He hurled six innings, scattering seven hits, three runs (earned), while walking and striking out a pair. On the other hand, Albuquerque relieverShane Broyles (3-1) enjoyed the win after one and two-thirds of shutout ball. He followed Antonio Senzatela, who fanned five in three-plus innings. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and three free passes.
The Grizzlies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. A walk to Tim Federowicz started the carousel. Then, Jon Kemmer singled sharply to right, where the ball was booted. Federowicz thundered home and Kemmer got to third on the error. Kemmer would waltz home on the next pitch, thanks to a laser single to center by Jack Mayfield (2-for-3).
Albuquerque quickly cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third courtesy of three straight singles and a double play. In the top of the fifth, the Isotopes knotted the contest at two when Raimel Tapia (2-for-3) spanked a double to center field, plating Ryan McMahon.
Finally, Mike Tauchman (2-for-4) walloped a game-winning homer to dead center in the top of the sixth. His 11th dinger made it 3-2 Isotopes. That would be enough for Mike Dunn and Scott Oberg, both on MLB rehab, to shut the door. Oberg picked up his third save in the process.
Kyle Tucker pushed his team-high hitting streak to 12 games with a single to right in the seventh. Myles Straw added two hits in the loss. Fresno fell to 8-11 in one-run games and 14-3 when scoring first at home.

In Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, the Fresno Grizzlies (46-29) walked-off on the Albuquerque Isotopes (38-37) 2-1 at Chukchansi Park. Kyle Tucker (2-for-4) pushed his team-high hit streak to 13 games, the second longest streak by a Grizzly this season (Tony Kemp, 20, April 23-May 14). During that span, Tucker is 28-for-57 (.491) with eight extra-base knocks, 11 RBI (57 on the season, 2nd in Triple-A), 13 runs, five walks and five swipes. He also played hero as the walk-off single was his second game-winner of the season (April 13 vs. Reno) and the fourth overall by Fresno.
Tucker's double in the bottom of the first was rewarded with a run thanks to an error by the Isotopes. The 1-0 lead lasted half a frame as Ryan McMahon destroyed a pitch to right field. It was his fourth longball of the season and his seventh in 11 career games against the Grizzlies. With the game knotted at one, Tucker knocked a game-ending single to center, plating Jon Kemmer in the seventh.
Rogelio Armenteros took a no-decision despite dominating for Fresno all night. He hurled six innings, allowing one hit and one run (homer by McMahon), walking a pair and fanning a season-high nine. The Grizzlies improved to 20-2 in his outings since 2017. They also went to 9-11 in one-run affairs.
Brendan McCurry (3-2) enjoyed the victory and Scott McGough (6-2) suffered the loss.
Fresno relishes an off-day on Sunday before heading to El Paso for a four-game set starting Monday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PT. RHP Josh James (2-2, 2.23) gets the nod for the Grizzlies while the Chihuahuas counter with righty Brett Kennedy (4-0, 2.68).
