Chasers Slam Dodgers 8-0

June 24, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Storm Chasers center fielder Donnie Dewees reached base four times and finished a double shy of hitting for the cycle, second baseman Humberto Arteaga crushed a grand slam and starting pitcher Trevor Oaks fired six scoreless innings in Omaha's 8-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.

Dewees began his odyssey for the cycle by leading off the Omaha order with a triple in the opening frame before slapping a single in the subsequent frame and moving to third on RF Billy Burns ' RBI double to left that gave the Storm Chasers the 1-0 advantage. Dewees then increased Omaha's advantage to three by crushing a two-run blast to left in the fourth. The two-bagger remained elusive for Dewees, however, drawing a four-pitch free pass in the fifth prior to being set down in the seventh.

1B Ryan O'Hearn began the five-run fifth with an opposite field solo home run to left to extend the lead to four. Arteaga eventually capped the scoring with his grand slam to left, the second bases loaded blast hit by a Storm Chasers player this season.

Dewees (3-4, R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, BB) paced the Omaha order with his trio of knocks, including his first career Triple-A big fly, alongside a two-hit effort by SS Jack Lopez (2-4, 2 R). Dodgers LF Andrew Toles (2-4) collected two of his side's five hits. Dewees through his first four games with the Storm Chasers has recorded hits in seven of 17 at-bats, including three extra-base knocks.

Oaks (6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, BB, 7 K) was excellent in his first start against his former team, scattering five hits while fanning a season-high seven in six solid innings. The right-hander has yielded just two earned runs over his last five outigns with Omaha dating back to May 14, and lowered his earned-run average to 2.05, just behind Memphis' Dakota Hudson (2.04) for the PCL lead. Storm Chasers relievers Kevin Lenik (2.0 IP, BB, 3 K) and Jake Newberry (1.0 IP, H) joined forces for the final three shutout frames, while Oklahoma City righty Tyler Pill (4.1 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) suffered the defeat.

Omaha hits the road for a four-game road series against the Round Rock Express, with first pitch of Monday's series opener scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers are anticipated to give the nod to RHP Scott Barlow (1-1, 4.00), with Round Rock expected to send RHP Chris Jensen (0-0, 7.36) to the hill.

Following their road trip, Omaha returns to Werner Park to host the Memphis Redbirds for a four-game homestand starting on Friday, June 29. First pitch of the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m. CT.

Tickets are still available for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home dates in 2018, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
