SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Catcher Stephen Vogt went 5-for-6 with four runs, six RBI and two home runs on a night that saw 20 River Cats hits as the club slugged their way past the Salt Lake Bees by a score of 18-7 on Friday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
The Cats scored in the top of the first inning for the second game in a row, this time pushing two runs across on a two-run blast from Stephen Vogt. Salt Lake tied the game at two in the bottom half, before each team scored four runs in the third, sending the game to the fourth inning tied at six.
Sacramento kept the pedal to the metal, plating three runs in the fourth on Daric Barton's three-run home run, four in the sixth on Vogt's grand slam, and five in the eighth highlighted by a two-run double from Anthony Aliotti-his first extra-base hit and RBI with the Cats. The Bees responded with just one run in the eighth, ultimately falling to the River Cats, 18-7.
Barton finished 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBI and a home run, while Michael Taylor and Andy Parrino each had three-hit nights of their own. Taylor drove in three runs, while Aliotti and Shane Peterson each drove in two.
Bruce Billings tallied his league-leading 10th win of the season, yielding six runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings, moving his ERA to 4.52 on the year. Hideki Okajima, Paul Smyth, Pedro Figueroa and Darren Byrd combined to throw four innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
The loss was charged to Matt Shoemaker, who gave up nine earned on nine hits in 3.2 innings, moving his record to 8-11 on the year. Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a grand slam to pace Sacramento's offense.
The River Cats will look to win their fourth-straight game at 6:05 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark when righty Travis Banwart (5-5, 5.00 ERA) starts opposite Bees right-handed pitcher Jarrett Grube (3-4, 4.29 ERA).
Sacramento returns home for a four-game set against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Monday, July 22 for a homestand that will feature Bark in the Ballpark, Country Night, Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday and Toyota Family Value Tuesday.
