Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The first-place Isotopes defeated the Storm Chasers 4-3 Friday night at Isotopes Park. Alex Castellanos started the scoring for the Topes, leading off the bottom of the second with his team-leading 14th home run of the season. The outfielder also stole his 12th base of the season in the fifth.

Starter Matt Magill pitched in and out of trouble in the third, walking the bases loaded in the frame with one out. Ben Broussard drove in Paulo Orlando, who led off the frame with a walk, on a sacrifice fly. Omaha did not have a hit in the inning, but did knot the score at one.

Dee Gordon (2-for-4, R) legged out a bunt single in the bottom of the frame and then promptly swiped second for a league-leading 35 times this season. He was the only Isotope with a multi-hit game. After Elian Herrera drew a walk, Tony Gwynn Jr. knocked in Gordon for his first RBI since returning from the disabled list yesterday. Ian Stewart also reached base on balls, loading them up for Rusty Ryal. The designated hitter drove in two, extending the Topes lead to 4-1 and ending starter Justin Marks' evening. Marks suffered the loss, allowing four runs on five hits over 2.1 innings.

The Isotopes showed off their arms in the fourth. Castellanos gunned down Quintin Berry from left field trying to stretch a single to a double. Damaso Espino then ended the frame, tossing out Adam Moore at second as he attempted to advance on a ball that skipped away.

Magill did not allow another run over his four innings of work. He walked five and struck out four, surrendering three hits and did not factor in the decision. Red Patterson entered in the fifth, and allowed two runs on six hits, a walk and four strikeouts over 2.2 innings of relief to earn the win.

A Christian Colon solo home run added another in the seventh off Patterson to cut the Topes lead to one, before Peter Moylan came in to record the final out of the frame. The Australian hurler then tossed a hitless eighth to tally his fourth hold on the year. His only blemish on the night was a leadoff walk that was erased when Espino caught Berry stealing. Javy Guerra closed the door in the ninth, converting his fifth save.

The Topes and Storm Chasers will continue their four-game set tomorrow with another 7:05 p.m. start at Isotopes Park. Rob Rasmussen will toe the rubber against Omaha's righty Yorando Ventura. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for the pre-game festivities that include the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
