New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Johnny Hellweg allowed two hits in six scoreless innings, and Robinzon Diaz hit a three-run homer to lead the Nashville Sounds past the New Orleans Zephyrs, 8-5 on Saturday night.

Hellweg, who had worked 11 scoreless innings in a pair of wins over the Zephyrs earlier this season, did not allow a hit until Z's pitcher Duane Below reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt that eluded catcher Anderson De La Rosa in the third inning. Jordan Brown's one-out single in the fifth was the only other hit against Hellweg (8-4), who walked four and struck out six.

Below struck out the side in order in the top of the first, but struggled through the next three innings. De La Rosa put Nashville on the board in the second with an RBI single, and scored a batter later on Cole Garner's single up the middle.

Hunter Morris singled to lead off the fourth inning, and scored on De La Rosa's two-out double down the left field line.

Rett Varner relieved Below in the fifth and surrendered a three-run shot to Diaz, doubling Nashville 's lead to 6-0.

The Zephyrs finally broke through against the Sounds bullpen in the seventh, courtesy of back-to-back, two-out RBI doubles by Gorkys Hernandez and Chris Valaika .

Nashville added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth. A bad-hop grounder to third by pinch-hitter Hainley Statia opened the door for a two-run single by Kentrail Davis.

Hernandez blasted a three-run homer off Michael Olmsted in the bottom of the ninth, but Nashville's All-Star closer Rob Wooten came on to record the final two outs.

The Zephyrs and Sounds conclude the series on Sunday at 6 p.m.
