Mccarthy Set To Join Aces On Major League Rehab

July 20, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.- Arizona Diamondbacks RHP Brandon McCarthy has been tabbed as the Reno Aces starting pitcher for Sunday night to begin his Major League Rehabilitation Assignment.

McCarthy was placed on the D-backs 15-day Disabled List on June 1, with shoulder inflammation. He was 2-4 with a 5.00 ERA in 11 starts with the D-backs this season before his injury.

The 30-year-old California native is entering his first season in the D-backs organization, after signing a two-year contract in the offseason.

His 2012 season was brought to an early end when he was struck on the right side of his head by an Erick Aybar line drive on September 5.

He was selected by the White Sox as their 17th round selection in the 2002 draft. He has previously spent time with the Chicago (AL), Texas and Oakland organizations.

Seven other players also completed rehab assignments with Reno earlier this season: reliever J.J. Putz, infielders Didi Gregorius, Willie Bloomquist, Aaron Hill and Eric Chavez, and outfielders Cody Ross and Adam Eaton.

The Aces will face the Las Vegas 51's in the series finale tomorrow night (6:05 p.m. PT), before hitting the road for a four-game road trip. McCarthy is tentatively scheduled to make two starts with Reno, and should be tabbed as the Aces starter when the club returns home Friday night.

Tickets are on sale for Sunday night's game, and all Aces home games, at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
