Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A total of 14,014 fans were on hand for the 73rd sellout in River Cats history as Sacramento downed the Las Vegas 51s by a score of 11-7 on a Sutter Health Fireworks Saturday night at Raley Field.
The 51s jumped out to an early lead, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. Sacramento didn't wait long to respond, batting around and plating seven runs in the bottom half. In total, the inning saw Michael Choice single-home Grant Green, Daric Barton draw a bases-loaded walk, a two-run single from Scott Moore, and a three-run home run from Conner Crumbliss, giving the River Cats a 7-3 lead after one.
Las Vegas made things interesting, scoring twice in the third and twice in the fourth to tie the game at seven. The River Cats broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth, however, on a solo home run from Moore. Sacramento then tacked on three more runs-one on a solo shot from Shane Peterson in the seventh, and two on a Jemile Weeks two-run triple in the eighth-to take an 11-7 lead it would not relinquish.
Moore finished 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBIs, a walk and his second homer of the year. Crumbliss went 1-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs and his third long ball, while Choice finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Starting pitcher Justin Thomas (0-2) took a no-decision, giving up six earned runs on seven hits and four walks with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Travis Banwart (2-0) got the win, giving up one earned run in 2.2 innings of relief, while Brian Gordon picked up his first hold with one scoreless inning pitched. Mike Ekstrom tallied his third save with two scoreless innings of work.
The win is Sacramento's sixth-straight at home, and improves their division-leading record to 17-13.
The River Cats will look to extend their home winning streak to seven games tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. when right-hander Jesse Chavez (2-1, 2.70 ERA) takes on New York Mets top-prospect Zack Wheeler (1-1, 4.80) on U.S. Bank Sunday Funday at Raley Field.
