Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (16-12) reclaimed sole possession of first place in the American Conference Northern Division in a 2-1 pitchers' duel that took ten innings to decide when David Lough singled home Irving Falu in the first extra frame to defeat the Memphis Redbirds (15-13) and even the series.

The Storm Chasers held a 1-0 lead on a RBI single by Lough in the third inning until the Redbirds tied the game in the eighth on a RBI double by first baseman Brock Peterson. After two scoreless total innings, Falu led off the tenth frame for Omaha with a triple that soared over the head of Cardinals top prospect Oscar Taveras and was hit home in the next at-bat by Lough's second hit of the game. It was the second walk-off winner for the Storm Chasers this season, both coming in extra innings at Werner Park.

Lough is currently riding a 14-game hitting streak, the longest by any Storm Chasers player this season and tied for the longest current streak in the Pacific Coast League at the time of publication with Colorado Springs' DJ LeMahieu (who plays later tonight). During the streak, Lough has totaled 29 hits in 60 at-bats (.483) and is now two hits away from tying Dave Cripe for tenth place on the Omaha all-time hits list (currently at 449 hits in 391 career games). With two triples in the game, Falu moved in to a tie with 1980s Omaha Royals Buddy Biancalana and Gary Thurman for third place on the all-time triples list at 25 in his career. Falu has racked up 12 hits in his last eight games after totaling just 11 in his first 18 games of the season and has raised his average from .194 to .250 during that time frame.

Storm Chasers starter Chris Dwyer outdueled the number six prospect in the St. Louis organization Michael Wacha by going 6.1 scoreless innings allowing just three hits while striking out six Redbirds. It was the first scoreless outing in his 15 career Triple-A starts and his fifth consecutive quality start, a new personal best for the southpaw. Dwyer has not allowed more than two runs in any of his six starts for Omaha this season, one of only two pitchers in the PCL with five or more starts who has not given up more than two runs in any outing (Memphis' John Gast is the other, who pitched against Omaha on Friday).

The Storm Chasers have allowed only eight hits in the two games with Memphis in the series, and last season Omaha did not allow five hits or less in back-to-back games all year. The two teams will finish off the now three-game series tomorrow as Omaha sends out left-hander Ryan Verdugo (1-2, 4.94) against Memphis lefty Tyler Lyons (2-1, 4.25) with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. CDT.
