June 8, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, struggled at the plate Wednesday night and lost game two against the San Antonio Missions 11-2 at Wolff Stadium.
Leading 4-2 after six innings, San Antonio (18-39) put the game away with a seven-run seventh inning against relievers David Perez and Ryne Slack. San Antonio notched seven hits in the frame to put an exclamation point on its second win against the Riders in 14 tries this season.
The RoughRiders (33-23) took an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run from Lewis Brinson, but the Missions maintained control the rest of the way. San Antonio scored an unearned run in the first and added two more in the second against Frisco starter Victor Payano (4-4), before adding a final run against Payano in the fourth. The southpaw worked five innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits, while walking four and striking out five in the defeat.
After Brinson's early home run, the Riders struggled to get the bats going against starter T.J. Weir (1-1) and the Missions bullpen. Weir lasted six innings and allowed two runs on five hits to earn the win. In total, the Riders finished with just six hits and scored their only other run on a RBI groundout from Andy Ibanez in the fifth. Chris Garia finished 2-for-3 in his first game with the Riders in 2016 after coming up from Class-A Hickory on Monday.
Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo and catcher Robinson Chirinos both rejoined the Riders to continue their Major League rehabilitation assignments Wednesday night. Choo went 1-for-3, playing right field for seven innings, while Chrinos finished 0-for-4, playing the entire game behind the plate.
With Corpus Christi's win over Midland, the Riders fell to 2.5 games back the Hooks in the South Division standings. Frisco continues the four-game series in San Antonio Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Rangers pitcher A.J. Griffin (0-0, -.-- ERA) is slated to make a rehab start for Frisco against right-hander Bryan Rodriguez (3-5, 3.51 ERA). The Riders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for a nine-game homestand beginning Saturday, June 11, which is Vulcan Salute to Star Trek Night.
