Frisco RoughRiders News Release
MIDLAND, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders started off their series against the Midland RockHounds with a 1-0, 10-inning win on Tuesday night from Momentum Bank Ballpark.
With the game scoreless into the top of the 10th, Frisco's (13-5) Bubba Thompson sacrificed Jax Biggers to third base and two batters later, Jake Hoover plated Biggers on a sacrifice fly to give the Riders a 1-0 lead. It was Hoover's RoughRiders debut.
Cole Uvila then came on to pitch for Frisco in the bottom of the 10th and struck out the last two batters to earn his fourth save of the year.
The Riders pitching staff was brilliant again, spinning their fourth shutout of the season. Jake Latz was nearly untouchable in his start, allowing just a hit and two walks over five innings while striking out eight in a no-decision. Fernery Ozuna then fired a scoreless frame, Joe Gatto added two and Joe Kuzia (1-0) chipped in one to earn the win in his Riders debut before Uvila came on.
In an odd game, Frisco was just held to two hits with both of them coming in the first inning from Thompson and J.P. Martinez.
Zach Jackson (0-1) took the loss for Midland (9-10), allowing the unearned run in the 10th.
The RoughRiders continue their six-game series with the RockHounds on Wednesday, May 26 with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch for game two. RHP Tyler Phillips (1-0, 1.50) starts for Frisco against Midland's RHP Bryce Conley (2-0, 4.73).
