Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Jake Riddle broke loose for a hat trick and an assist as the host Quad City Mallards defeated the Dayton Gems 4-2 Saturday night.

The Mallards would take the lead for good in the second period, bouncing back after Tim Hartung's one timer from the high slot erased a 1-0 Quad City advantage just 68 seconds into the second. The Mallards were on the power play when Brandon Marino batted the tie-breaking goal into the net out of mid-air at 11:10. At the 16:08 mark, Riddle buried Joel Gasper's centering pass and the gap stretched to 3-1.

The Gems pulled within one when Hartung scored his second goal of the night from the doorstep at 11:43 of the third period, but with 37 seconds remaining, an empty net goal would complete Riddle's hat trick and finish off the Gems.

Riddle kick-started what would prove to be a banner evening when he staked the Mallards to a 1-0 lead at 16:13 of the first period by sweeping Bobby Preece's centering pass home.

The Mallards next play Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Bloomington PrairieThunder on home ice. Wednesday's regular season home finale is Fan Appreciation Night- the evening will feature autographed Mallards memorabilia giveaways as well as a host of other surprises.
