Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
ALLEN, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (24-33-6) fell to the Allen Americans (44-16-2) on Saturday night by a 3-1 final. The last two American goals were scored just 43 seconds apart in the second period including one while shorthanded. Darcy Campbell scored the Bees lone goal, his 13th of the season.
The two teams played a competitive first period with neither team able to score a legal goal. Allen did have an early tally waived off after the Greg Gallagher deflection came with the stick above his head.
Juliano Pagliero made nine saves during the first period while Chris Whitley turned away the eight chances he saw.
The second period took a decidedly different tone as the first period as the two teams combined for four goals. Allen opened the scoring at the 1:33 mark of the period as Colton Yellow Horn potted what would be his first of the game.
The Bees tied the game less than two minutes later as Darcy Campbell backhanded a Tomas Klempa pass by Chris Whitley. For Campbell it is his 13th goal of the season and 55th point of the year.
The Amerks would rally for a pair of quick goals at 9:53 and 10:36 of the second period. Dave Bonk registered the first goal while on a two-on-one with Tobias Whelan. Allen was able to break away for the two-on-one while the Bees were on the power-play as the defense had pinched in on a rush.
Colton Yellow Horn scored his second goal of the game just 43 seconds later picking up his own rebound and beating Pagliero from his knees. Pagliero was sprawled out making the first save and had no chance at the second.
Neither team was able score in the third period though the Bees had an apparent goal disallowed. Rob Cowan took a shot on net that rattled off the post into the back of the net and though the referee originally called goal a discussion with the linesmen reversed his decision keeping the Bees deficit at two as high sticking against the Bees was called.
The Bees would pull Juliano Pagliero with 1:21 remaining and sent rubber Chris Whitley's way but he was able to make the saves keeping the Bees off the board.
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees return home for the rest of the regular season starting Tuesday against the Odessa Jackalopes. The game gets underway at 7 p.m. and tickets are available by calling 843-PUCK (7825) or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
