Bucks Catch a Grenade, Fall 4-1

RAPID CITY, SD- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rapid City Rush 4-1 Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Laredo and Rio Grande Valley both lost Saturday night to keep the Bucks two points behind the Killer Bees for the final playoff spot in the Berry Conference. Laredo has lost three straight games as they fall to 22-33-8 (52 points).

Danny Battochio stopped 35 of 36 shots he faced to help the Rush improve to 38-22-4 (80 points).

For the second straight night the Rush took a 1-0 lead over the Bucks when Colt King scored from the top of the left circle on an odd-man rush. The tally was King's 11th of the season.

Both Laredo and Rapid City each put up eight shots in the first period.

Rapid City would score twice in the first 6:23 of the second period to build a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Just 1:08 into the second Ryan Menei scored from the top of the slot with the Rush on the power-play to make it 2-0. The goal was Menei's second in as many games and his team-leading 38th of the season.

The Rush would increase their lead to 3- 0 at the 6:23 mark of the second when Riley Weslowski scored on a long rebound from just inside the blue line on a broken play. The goal was Weslowski's fifth of the season.

Laredo outshot Rapid City 17-16 in the second period.

Keegan Dansereau made it 3-1 Rush when he scored on a rebound from the right side of the crease with 5:54 left in the third period. The goal was Dansereau's sixth goal in 11 games for the Bucks.

Les Reaney would score a power-play goal with just nine seconds left in the game to make it 4-1 Rush.

Each team put up 11 shots in the third period with the Bucks outshooting the Rush 36-35 in the game.

Torrie Jung stopped 31 of 35 shots for the Bucks.

The Bucks close out their four-game road trip next Friday at Texas. Game time is 7:30pm.
