Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Lansing, MI - Despite a multi-hit game from Joey Rickard, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (61-42, 23-12) were defeated by the Lansing Lugnuts (44-59, 12-22) 4-1 on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Jeff Ames received his third loss of the season, allowing four runs in 5.2 innings. The loss for the Hot Rods is just their third in 13 games against Lansing in 2013.
The Lugnuts scored a single run in each of the first four innings on Saturday night, scoring all of their offense off Hot Rods starter Jeff Ames, who received just his third loss in 18 starts this season. Kellen Sweeney's fourth-inning solo home run was the first home run allowed by Ames since May 20.
The only Hot Rods run was plated in the top of the sixth courtesy Joey Rickard. With two on and two outs, Rickard singled through the hole at second base to score Luke Maile. The Hot Rods were held to just three hits on the night, their lowest hit total since June 3, and Rickard had two of them.
The Hot Rods and Lugnuts continue their three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium at 1:05 PM CDT. The starting pitching matchup is as follows: LHP Jordan Harrison (1-2, 2.42) for Bowling Green and RHP Taylor Cole (5-9, 3.95) for Lansing. The broadcast starts with Hank Fuerst on the Forever Communications Pregame Show at 12:35 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
Bowling Green Ballpark returns to action in early August with a nine-game homestand to open the month. The Hot Rods will host the Dayton Dragons on August 1 along with Red, White, and Blue Night presented by AAA Systems, honoring members of the military, firefighters, and police personnel. The game will also serve as Thirsty Thursday, with $2 food and drink specials made possible by All-Hit WUHU 107 and Beaver 96.7.
