Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Dayton starting pitcher Drew Cisco allowed just one unearned run over five strong innings as the Dragons defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 5-2 in the opener of a three-game series. The Dragons improved to 19-16 in the second half and pulled to within four games of first place Bowling Green. The Dragons are three games out of the wildcard slot.
Cisco (4-5) allowed three hits and two walks with two strikeouts to earn the win. Michael Lorenzen pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first professional save.
Dayton trailed 1-0 when they scored three runs in the second inning. Seth Mejias-Brean, Jeff Gelalich, and Tanner Rahier provided three consecutive singles to load the bases. Mejias-Brean scored on a wild pitch, and Zach Vincej singled to right field to drive in Gelalich. Rahier scored on an error to make it 3-1.
Fort Wayne scored one in the sixth to pull to within a run at 3-2, but the Dragons responded with two runs in the seventh, taking advantage of two Fort Wayne errors and a wild pitch that brought in a run to push the lead to 5-2 and close out the scoring.
The Dragons finished with eight hits. Daniel Pigott had a double and a triple while Beau Amaral had two singles. Mejias-Brean was 1 for 3 to extend his hitting streak to 11 straight games, matching Rahier and Junior Arias for the 2013 season high for the Dragons.
