TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and the New Britain Rock Cats will meet in the finale of a three-game series...Right-hander Chris Province retired the first 19 Flying Squirrel batters and the Rock Cats held on to a 3-1, series-clinching win in game two of the series on Wednesday night at New Britain Stadium.

TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander Clayton Tanner gets the start in the series finale for the Flying Squirrels...Earned the win in his last outing against Portland 8/13...Allowed one unearned run on five hits in 6 2/3 innings...Struck out five batters and walked six...Recorded eight ground outs and four fly outs...Threw 101 pitches, 54 strikes...Issued three leadoff walks (one scored)...Six walks issued were a career-high and matched a season-high for a Flying Squirrels' pitcher...Has allowed three runs or less in 17 of his 23 starts...Has gone six-plus innings in 12 of his last 14 outings...Had issued five walks over his previous 22 2/3 innings of work (1.99 bb/9 ip)...Left-handed batters are hitting .190 against him (20-for-105)...Is tied for sixth in the Eastern League with a 3.25 ERA...Is 0-0 with a 4.63 ERA in two starts against New Britain...Has allowed six runs on 12 hits in 11 2/3 innings while striking out four batters and walking six.

SWEEPLESS IN NEW BRITAIN?: The Flying Squirrels are trying to avoid being swept for the fourth time this season...The last time the club was swept in a three-game series was 6/18-6/20 against the Altoona Curve...Richmond is 16-18 in series finales.

HARD TIMES IN THE HARDWARE CITY: The Flying Squirrels have lost a series for the first time since losing two of three to the Reading Phillies 7/26-7/28...The club was undefeated over its previous five series, going 4-0-1 over that stretch...Richmond has lost consecutive games for the first time since losing three straight 7/24-7/26.

WASHED OUT: Since having the series finale against New Hampshire rained out 7/12, the Flying Squirrels are batting just .197 (31-for-157) over their last five games...Only eight of the club's 31 hits have gone for extra bases...Prior to the rain out, Richmond had reached double-digits in hits in six straight games...The club had combined for 76 hits over the six-game stretch, including 33 extra-base hits...The club hit .315 (76-for-241) over the six games prior to the rain out.

THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal went 1-for-4 with a double and a RBI in last night's 3-1 loss to New Britain...The 23-year-old is tied for third in the Eastern League in doubles with 35...He ranks third in the league in hits with 134...Since 6/1, Neal is batting .317 (82-for-259) in 68 games with 24 doubles, seven home runs, 36 RBI, and 44 runs scored...He has raised his batting average from .255 to .291 over that span.

AT A BOY-ER: Infielder Brad Boyer has hits in each of his last four games, matching the longest hit streak of the season for the 26-year-old...He is 5-for-13 (.385) with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored over his last four games...Boyer was the only Flying Squirrels batter to get a hit in all three games of the series against Portland and he broke up Chris Province's bid for a perfect game with a one-out single in the top seventh inning on Wednesday night.

UNBUCKLING THE BELT: In 116 games combined between Advanced-A San Jose and Double-A Richmond, first baseman Brandon Belt is second in all of minor league baseball in on-base percentage (.459), is second in batting average (.363), is tied for fourth in RBI (95), and is fourth in slugging percentage (.618)...The 22-year-old is batting .452 (19-for-42) with runners in scoring position in 39 games with the Flying Squirrels and is hitting .403 (52-for-129) overall with runners in scoring position this season.

DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 149 double plays in 121 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The Flying Squirrels have not gone more than three games without a double play this season...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned.

CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Right-hander Mike MacDonald has issued just two walks in his last five starts spanning 31 2/3 innings since returning to the Flying Squirrels rotation...The 28-year-old ranks fourth among Eastern League starting pitchers with 1.84 walks per nine innings (22 bb/107.1 ip).
