Thunder Take Down Bowie in Series Finale

Trenton, NJ - The Thunder moved one step closer to securing a playoff spot with a 5-2 win over Bowie on Thursday night. RHP D.J. Mitchell turned in another solid outing for Trenton with 6 1/3 innings pitched to earn his team-leading 11th win. The win moves Trenton (74-50) 3 ½ games ahead of New Hampshire in first place.

Trenton cushioned their lead to 5-2 with solo homeruns in the seventh from Marcos Vechionacci and Luis Nunez. The Thunder opened up a 2-0 lead in the first as RHP Chorye Spoone hit two batters and walked three. Spoone (7-6) did not allow a hit in 3 2/3 innings, but walked home two runs, issued eight walks and hit three batters.

D.J. Mitchell (11-4) went 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. Mitchell allowed two runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Mitchell was removed with two runners on in the seventh for LHP Wilkin de la Rosa. J.B. Cox pitched the final 1 1/3 to earn his first save of the season.

OF Justin Christian swiped two bases in the first two innings to become the all-time Thunder stolen base leader with 102. Christian passes Kevin Thompson who played for Trenton in parts of three (2003-2005) seasons.

The Thunder begin a three game series in Portland on Friday at 7:05 pm. Trenton will throw RHP Cory Arbiso (4-2, 3.61) against RHP Jeremy Kehrt (6-5, 4.82). All the action can be heard live on 107.7 FM or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
