Richard's homer gives Tribe 1-0 win over Rochester
June 29, 2006 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Designated hitter Chris Richard blasted a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to give Indianapolis a 1-0 win over Rochester Thursday evening at Victory Field.
The Indians, who have won five of their last six tilts, improve to 43-35 overall. Indianapolis continues to occupy second place in the International League's West Division.
The Red Wings, who have dropped six of their last seven affairs, fall to 46-34 on the season. Rochester maintains its lead in the IL's North Division.
By taking three of four games in the series, Indianapolis and Rochester split their eight head-to-head games in 2006.
Richard, who finished 1-for-3 with his eighth long ball of campaign, has now reached base safely in 39 consecutive games. CF Rajai Davis extended his season-long hitting streak to 14 games with a 1-for-3 performance.
Tribe 1B Yurendell de Caster recorded a 2-for-3 effort, while Rochester CF Jason Tyner managed a 2-for-4 night.
The pitchers' duel featured three hurlers from each side. Indians RHP Terry Adams (2.0 IP, 1 H) earned the win, improving to 4-2. Red Wings RHP Henry Bonilla (5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 3-6.
Neither starter -- Indianapolis RHP Marty McLeary (6.0 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 SO) or Rochester RHP J.D. Durbin (1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO) -- factored in the decision. McLeary, who was making his 24th appearance overall, struck out a season high in his longest scoreless outing of the year. Durbin departed in the second inning with a strained right bicep after fanning three of the five batters he faced.
Indianapolis improves to 28-3 on the season when reaching the five-run plateau. The Tribe pitching staff also registered its 11th shutout of the campaign.
Indianapolis now hits the road for four games at Toledo. Indians LHP Sean Burnett is scheduled to start Friday's 7 p.m. series opener, opposite Mud Hens RHP Jordan Tata.
The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Friday's pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
