TONIGHT'S GAME: The fourth of a four game series and the eighth of ten meetings with the Bats, the fourth of six at Louisville Slugger Field. Louisville is 7-0 vs. the Braves, 3-0 at home. Game seven of a seven game road trip (the Braves are 1-5). The Braves were 8-4 vs. the Bats last season, 5-1 at Louisville Slugger Field. This is the 26th of 48 games vs. West Division opponents, Richmond is 9-16 vs. the West Division. The 14th of 24 road games vs. West Division opponents (Richmond is 4-9). The Braves are 56-68 all-time vs. Louisville. The Braves are fourth in the South, 25 games behind first place Charlotte. The Bats lead the West Division by a half game over Indianapolis.
YESTERDAY'S GAME: The Bats beat the Braves 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Park. Earl Snyder drove in all four runs as the Bats beat the Braves for the seventh straight time. Snyder singled a run home in the first to give the Bats a 1-0 lead. The Braves tied the game in the fifth when Tony Pena scored on a double play ground ball. The Braves moved in front in the sixth on a Michael Ryan solo home run. The Bats tied it right back up in the home half on an RBI double by Snyder. Snyder came up again in the seventh and put the Bats in front to stay with a two run double. Justin Germano allowed one earned run in seven innings to pick up the win. Scott Chiasson picked up a save for the second straight night. Ricardo Rodriguez took the loss. Snyder had three hits for the Bats. Ryan had three hits for the Braves.
THE SKID: The Braves have lost five straight games and 17 of their last 18. The Braves are a season low 24 games under .500 and the 25 games out of first equals a season low. They are 0-7 vs. Louisville this season, with five meetings left this season. They Braves had never been swept in a season series by an IL opponent in their 41 year history prior to going 0-8 vs. Pawtucket this season. Their 12 game losing streak earlier in June is a club record.
AS THE ROSTER TURNS: RHP Carlos Almanzar has been placed on the DL retroactive to June 27 (elbow). He made one appearance with the Braves. Richmond's roster now stands at 23 (11 pitchers, three catchers, five infielders, and four outfielders). The Braves have used 46 players this season (they used a club record 60 in 2005). At least three players have started at every position this season. Richmond has produced 15 different players called up to Atlanta thus far this season, one more than in all of last year. The Braves have made 78 roster moves this season.
LEADERS OF THE PACK: The Braves four wins when trailing after eight innings is tops in the International League. Richmond is second in extra inning games played with 14 (Rochester has 15). The Braves, 4-10 in bonus frames, have already played more extra inning games than in all of last season (11). The Braves have been caught stealing 19 times, the fewest in the league. They are second in stolen base percentage (72.5) behind Charlotte (74.6).
CRUNCHING NUMBERS: Braves pitchers are 8-37 at the plate (.216) with an RBI and a SB. Braves pinch hitters are 4-27 (.148). The Braves are 6-13 vs. National League affiliates. Richmond has scored eight runs in seven games vs. Louisville. The Braves are last in the IL in ERA. They are also last in batting average with runners in scoring position (.217) by 12 points. Mendez has hits in seven of his last eight games (12-30 .423). Martin Prado's three game hitting streak ended last night. Brayan Pena has hits in 10 of his last 11 games (17-45 .378). Paul Bush has not allowed a run in his first three Triple-A outings.
