Louisville Bats News Release
- VERSUS THE BRAVES: Last year, Louisville lost the season series to Richmond 4-8, with Richmond taking five of the six games played here at Louisville Slugger Field. All time against Richmond, Louisville owns a 68-56 record including a 33-31 record here in Louisville. Since opening in April, 2000, Louisville has a 19-20 record against Richmond at LSF. The Bats swept the first four games played between these two teams earlier this year in Richmond.
- IN THE STANDINGS: The Bats have spent the following days alone or tied at each position in the International League West Division standings: FIRST - 9, SECOND - 21, THIRD - 33, FOURTH - 20.
- ABOUT THE MANAGER: Manager Rick Sweet enters the 2006 campaign as his 18th season as a minor league manager. Sweet owns a career record of 1,159-1,167. 2006 marks his second season in the Reds organization.
- BATS INSIDE PITCH: The Louisville Bats will once again produce a weekly half-hour show on ICN-2 (Insight Channel 2) in Louisville. "Bats Inside Pitch" will premiere a new show at 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday, with replays at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday, and 4 p.m. Sunday on ICN2. Bats radio broadcasters Jim Kelch and Matt Andrews host the show each week that will take you behind the scenes with the 2006 Louisville Bats.
- AT HOME (24-16): Are hitting .275 (352-1281) with 28 HR, 143 runs scored (3.57/g) and a 3.39era.
- ATTENDANCE BREAKS RECORD: Louisville's Opening Night attendance of 14,123 on April 14 broke the Louisville Slugger Field single-game record of 13,242 set on April 12, 2000 - the first game played at LSF.
- TEAM ERA KEEPS DROPPING Louisville's current team ERA of 3.34 puts them at 3rd lowest in the International League. In 2005, Louisville finished the year 11th in ERA, but with a mark of 4.54. A mark of 3.34 would have been the lowest in the International League in 2005.
- KEEPING THEM AT BAY: Louisville currently has a 2.20 era in the month of June, the lowest of any IL team. Louisville's ERA was 4.07 in April and 3.95 in May. The Bats are one of only two teams (Rochester - 2.87) with an ERA under 3.00 in the IL this month.
- LEADING THE WAY: The Bats .273 batting average as a team leads in the International League. Chris Denorfia's .349 batting average is also leading the IL. Ray Olmedo's .335 batting average would put him at second in the league, however he is still 25 plate appearances away from qualifying.
- GOING FOR A MONUMENTAL MONTH: Louisville tied a franchise record last night with their 21st victory this month, equalling a mark which had been done twice before, in July of 1998 and May of 2001. With a win tonight or tomorrow, Louisville would set a franchise record for wins in a month. Coming into June, Louisville had gone 10 straight months without a winning record, there last coming in May of 2004.
- GAME TIMES CHANGED: The start time of the July 4 game versus Toledo has been changed from 7:15 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. Also, the start time for the July 5 doubleheader versus Toledo has been changed from 6:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- REHABBER: IF Edwin Encarnacion has joined Louisville on a ML rehab assignment. Encarnacion is recovering from a sprained left ankle, which he went on the Reds disabled list for on June 9. In 53 game for the Reds, Encarnacion is hitting .270-6hr-36rbi. He has hit safely in 38 of his 53 apps. For the Bats in 2005, Encarnacion hit .314-15hr-54rbi and was a post season All-Star.
- BEEN HERE FOR A SHORT TIME: Louisville is in first place for a second straight day, the last time before this coming on April 23 when they were tied for first with Indianapolis.
- WINNING WAYS: Louisville has now won six straight games overall, 15 of their last 17 and 18 of their last 21.
- MULTI HIT MAN: OF Chris Denorfia now has a mult-hit games in five of his last six games. His 26 multi-hit games is tops on the club.
- QUALITY, CLASSY PITCHING: Over the last 16 games, the Bats have allowed more than two runs only twice and are 14-2 during that span. The Bats team ERA over there last 16 games is 1.01.
- HIS NAME IS EARL: Earl Snyder drove in a season high four RBI in yesterday's victory. Snyder is batting .309 with 22 RBI in the month of June. Since May 23, Snyder has raised his average from .190 to it's current season high of .253.
- HE'S AN ALL-STAR: OF Chris Denorfia was yesterday elected as a starting outfielder for the International League in the Triple-A All-Star Game July 12 in Toledo. Denorfia will be Louisville lone representative, marking the third straight year Louisville has had only one player selected.
- TODAY IN LOUISVILLE BASEBALL HISTORY: June 29, 2000: Pee Wee Reese, a Louisville native and Baseball Hall of Famer is honored with an eight foot bronze statue on Main Street at Louisville Slugger Field before a game between the RiverBats and Columbus Clippers.
- LET THE CHASE BEGIN: RHP Scott Chiasson picked up his 12th save of the year last night, tied for 5th in the league. He is also tied for first in the IL in appearances (34). Chiasson has allowed one earned run since 5/15 (19 apps, 19.2 ip), good for a 0.45era.
