SkyChiefs and Blue Jays Extend Working Agreement

SYRACUSE (NY) - The Syracuse SkyChiefs announced today that they will be signing a two-year extension on the Player Development Contract with the Toronto Blue Jays during a press conference scheduled for 3:30 PM today, June 29th at Alliance Bank Stadium. The two-year agreement will keep Syracuse and Toronto united through the 2008 season.

Syracuse has been the Triple-A affiliate of Toronto since the Blue Jays' inception in 1978. The 29-year relationship between the two teams is currently the eleventh longest in Minor League Baseball and the fifth longest in Triple-A.

Fourteen players on the Blue Jays current twenty-five man roster of the have played for Syracuse including Gold Glove outfielder Vernon Wells (1999-01) and 2003 American League Cy Young Award Winner Roy Halladay (1997-98, 2000-01). Of the coaches currently on the Blue Jays staff, Marty Pevey played and managed in Syracuse, Ernie Whitt played in Syracuse and Brad Arnsberg was the SkyChiefs pitching coach in 2004.

Nine players on the SkyChiefs current roster have played with the Blue Jays over the past two seasons including top pitching prospects Dustin McGowan, rated the Blue Jays #1 Prospect by Baseball America, Brandon League (BA #7) and Francisco Rosario (BA #8).
