RHP Steven Wright Optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket

The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-hander Daniel Bard from Double-A Portland. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-hander Steven Wright was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after last night's game against Oakland.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
Bard, 27, has made eight relief appearances for Portland in 2013, going 0-1 with a 4.00 ERA (4 ER/9.0 IP) with four walks and four strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in each of his last five appearances (6.0 innings). For his major league career as a reliever, Bard has a 3.21 ERA (72 ER) in 199 appearances with 217 strikeouts in 202.0 innings. He will be available for this afternoon's game against Oakland.
The 28-year-old Wright made his major league debut in relief last night against the Athletics. In 3.2 innings pitched, he allowed five runs on six hits, walked four and struck out four. He was recalled by Boston on April 16 to fill the roster spot of right-hander Joel Hanrahan who was placed on the disabled list. Wright will rejoin Pawtucket where he was 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA (3 ER/10.0 IP) in two starts.
