Anthony Slama Put on Disabled List with Lower Back Strain

(Rochester, NY ) - Rochester Red Wings relief pitcher Anthony Slama was placed on the 7-day disabled list with a lower back strain, retroactive to April 23, the Red Wings announced today.

Slama, who is 0-4 with an 18.47 ERA (13 ER/6.1 IP) with two saves in eight games this season, left Monday night's game against Pawtucket at Frontier Field after allowing five runs on three hits in just 0.1 innings.

The former 39th round pick of the Twins in the 2006 draft entered the 2013 season with a 1.99 ERA and 100 saves in 254 career minor league games. Prior to this year, the 29-year-old posted a 2.27 ERA (39 ER/154.1 IP) with 36 saves in 123 games with the Red Wings from 2008-12.

Slama missed 58 games last season with a leg contusion after being hit by a comebacker off the bat of Norfolk's Miguel Tejada on June 6.

The Organe, Calif. native has appeared in seven career Major League games going 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA (4 ER/7.0 IP).

The Red Wings now have 12 players on their disabled list -- 11 pitchers and one position player (Drew Butera).
