RHP Maximo Castillo Tosses Six Strong Innings in Series Opening Win over Tampa

CLEARWATER, FL. - The second and final series against the Tampa Tarpons for the first half of the season got going right out of the gate. Maximo Castillo surrendered two doubles in a row for the first run of the ballgame, but the young righty tightened up from that moment on during his six innings of work. His put out pitch may not have been there tonight, but Castillo giving up one hit through the next three innings. He was also able to finish his outing with a three up three down 6th to retire the four through six batters.

The Blue Jays bounced back from their early deficit to quickly pickup Castillo for his earned run in the 1st. Cal Stevenson opened the game with a walk and with two outs in the frame Alejandro Kirk drilled a double to the left-center field wall to tie the game. Ryan Noda launched his 1-1 pitch to right field for a towering home run and a 3-1 lead. It was much of the same in the 3rd inning with Alejandro Kirk and Ryan Noda. Kirk added a single to what would become a three for three day with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in. Noda then pushed the lead even further with a sacrifice fly to right field scoringLogan Warmoth.

Tampa seemed to show some fight in the 5th inning with three singles in a row to score David Metzgar, but Maximo Castillo again avoided the big inning to keep the lead at 7-2. The Blue Jays added their sixth and seventh runs off of Kevin Vicuna's first home run of the year in the 4th inning of the contest. It was a scorching 104 mph off the bat when it ended up landing 429 feet from home.

Dunedin finished the scoring with more help from Alejandro Kirk and Logan Warmoth with a double a piece, and the damage was done to the tune of 10-2. Tampa tried to come back with two runs off of Connor Law in the 8th, but the bullpen of Dany Jimenez, Connor Law, and Brad Wilson stayed sharp for the entirety of the game to seal the 30th win of the season for the Blue Jays.

Game two of the three game set is tomorrow evening at historic Jack Russell Memorial Stadium at 6:30 pm. A win in one of the next two games for Dunedin would give them two series wins against the Tarpons in two tries this season.
