Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a pair of roster moves today as RHP Kerry Wood was activated by the Cleveland Indians and OF Jerad Head was transferred to Class AAA Columbus.

Wood made one rehab appearance for Akron, delivering a perfect first inning in Thursday's victory over the Reading Phillies. The Indians closer needed only eight pitches, all strikes, to retire all three batters he faced before giving way to RHP Alex White. He was activated today off the 15-day disabled list where he was originally placed retroactive to July 12th with a blister on his right index finger. He owns a 1-4 record with eight saves and a 6.30 ERA this season in Cleveland and began the year on the 15-day disabled list as well with a strained right latissimus dorsi muscle. The Indians signed Wood to a two-year free agent contract with a club option for 2011 on December 13th, 2008 and he owns a 3.71 ERA across 357 games (178 starts) with 1,488 strikeouts in his 12-year MLB career.

Head joins the Clippers for the second time this season after an extended hot streak with the Double-A Aeros. Over his past 36 games since June 10th, the versatile native of Topeka, KS was batting .336 with 13 doubles, nine home runs, 25 runs scored and 22 RBI to lead the Akron offense and exits with a current 13-game hitting streak, the longest of his professional career. In 49 games total with Akron, he batted .299 with 10 homers after participating in six games earlier this year in Columbus as well. Last season, the 27-year-old played at seven different positions (all but pitcher, catcher and shortstop) while collecting a .282 batting average in 98 games played for the Aeros. Head was originally signed by the Indians organization as a non-drafted free agent in August 2005 out of Washburn University (KS).

The Aeros roster currently stands at 22 men + 1 on rehab assignment. RHP Anthony Reyes will now wear #33 and is projected to throw either four innings or 65 pitches in his rehab start Sunday at 1:35 p.m. against the Reading Phillies, whichever comes first.
