
Fisher Cats close to within a half-game of first place with 6-1 win in Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)---Shawn Bowman broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning, and B. J. LaMura allowed one run over six innings, as the Fisher Cats pulled to within a half-game of first-place Trenton with a 6-1 win at Waterfront Park on Saturday night.
LaMura (5-3), in winning his fourth consecutive decision in July, allowed three hits, all singles. He walked two and struck out seven.
The Fisher Cats (64-44) scored the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. After being set down in order in each of the first three innings by Thunder starter Andrew Brackman, Darin Mastroianni led off with a single and stole second base. He moved to third on a ground out by Adeiny Hechavarria and scored on a single by Eric Thames (2-for-4, RBI) to make it 1-0.
Trenton (64-43) came back to tie it in the bottom of the inning as Matt Cusick singled home Daniel Brewer from second after he had reached on a fielders choice.
Seven consecutive Fisher Cats reached in the top of the sixth inning. Adam Loewen walked, Thames singled and Bowman homered to make it 4-1. After David Cooper walked and Matt Liuzza was hit by a pitch, Brian Jeroloman doubled to make it 5-1. Jonathan Diaz then singled home Liuzza for a 6-1 lead, ending the evening for the Trenton starter.
Brackman (2-6) allowed six runs in 5.1 innings on seven hits. He walked two and struck out four.
The final 11 Trenton batters to come to the plate made outs. Danny Farquhar, who followed LaMura, worked three perfect innings to earn his 16th save.
The series concludes in Trenton on Sunday at 5:05pm. RHP Kyle Drabek (10-9, 3.612) is the scheduled starter for New Hampshire against Thunder RHP Adam Warren (3-0, 2.95). Live coverage of the game can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network at 4:45pm with Bob Lipman.
