Harrisburg Senators News Release
Josh Johnson recorded three hits, three runs scored, and a three-run home run, all in just the first four innings, in leading the Harrisburg Senators to a 10-0 rout of the Portland Sea Dogs on Saturday night. All ten runs came in the first four innings. The win was seen by a past-capacity crowd of 6887 at Metro Bank Park, and moved the Sens to two games above .500, at 55-53.
The Senators scored two runs in the first inning, three in the third, and five more in the fourth, off of Portland starter Casey Kelly (3-5) and reliever Ryne Miller. Kelly gave up seven earned runs in 3+ innings, while Miller gave up three in the fourth before settling down and completing three innings himself.
The first two runs came on two first-inning RBI groundouts, by Marvin Lowrance and Jesus Valdez. Johnson and Danny Espinosa scored the runs. Then, in the third, the Senators loaded the bases with just one out before Valdez walked to drive in another run. Michael Martinez followed with a two-run single, which put the Sens up 5-0.
Kelly began the fourth inning, and gave up singles to Brad Coon and Espinosa before giving way to Miller. Johnson promptly hit a home run over the right-field fence-his second of the season-to break the game open and make it 8-0. Lowrance then walked, and Miller hit Chris Marrero with a pitch, before a flyout and then a Martinez single which loaded the bases. Tim Pahuta's sacrifice fly scored Lowrance, and Marrero came around to score one batter later, on Jhonatan Solano's RBI single. That made the score 10-0, and completed the scoring.
Jordan Zimmermann, making an MLB rehab start, went the first four and two-thirds innings for the Sens and allowed just one hit. He was denied the win, however, as he failed to go five innings. Chuck James (6-0) earned the win in relief, giving up just one hit himself in his three innings of work. Zach Dials allowed just one hit over the final inning and a third, leaving the Sea Dogs (52-55) with just three hits on the game. By contrast, the Senators racked up eleven, including the three by Johnson, and two apiece from Espinosa, Martinez, and Solano. Lowrance and Coon added one hit apiece.
The Senators go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at 2 PM, and send LHP Aaron Thompson (4-11, 5.38) to the mound to try to complete it. He faces RHP Alex Wilson (3-3, 6.46) of Portland. Radio coverage of Sunday's game begins at 1:45 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
