
RGV Vipers Stomp the Mad Ants

Hidalgo, Texas - The NBA G League Rio Grande Valley Vipers, proud affiliate of the Houston Rockets, got back to their winning ways after defeating Fort Wayne Mad Ants by a score of 119-116.
RJ Hunter led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in scoring with 27 points, and Julien Lewis added another 24 points. Fort Wayne's DeQuan Jones led both teams with 37 points, and also collected a double-double with 11 rebounds in the game.
Fort Wayne came out hot in the opening quarter, shooting 14-of-19. DeQuan Jones reached double-digit scoring in the first quarter with 11 points. The first quarter came to a close with Fort Wayne holding a 15-point lead over the Vipers.
Rio Grande Valley started gaining ground on Fort Wayne in the second quarter. RGV's Chinanu Onuaku and RJ Hunter scored six points each in the second quarter as the Vipers tried to even the game out. However, the Mad Ants did receive production from the bench in the second quarter. After not playing a single minute in the first quarter, Jamil Wilson scored 10 points.
The Vipers entered the third quarter trailing 52-55. Halfway through the third quarter, Rio Grande Valley stole the lead from Fort Wayne and carried it throughout the rest of the game. Julien Lewis stepped up for the Vipers with 13 points in the third quarter, and the Vipers led the Mad Ants 91-86 after three quarters of action.
RJ Hunter's 11 points in the fourth quarter were key to the Vipers defeating the Mad Ants. Rio Grande Valley even held a 13-point lead over Fort Wayne at one point. The Mad Ants were able to crawl back and cut the deficit to just five points with 35 seconds left in the game. Free throws from Hunter and Lewis were enough to keep Fort Wayne at a distance and seal the win for the Vipers.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers will head to a West Coast road trip where they'll face Agua Caliente Clippers on Thursday, March 8 and South Bay Lakers on Saturday, March 10. Fort Wayne's next match will be against Texas Legends on Wednesday, March 7.
