York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution sent ten batters to the plate, scoring six times in the top of the 13th inning for a huge 10-4 victory in Lancaster on Wednesday night. The Revs finish the season series between the two clubs with back-to-back wins, taking two of three in their series at Clipper Magazine Stadium, pulling within 2.5 games of first place with 24 scheduled games and one additional suspended game remaining. The Revs will continue their playoff push with the first of a four-game series at Somerset on Thursday night.

York opened the scoring in the top of the first as Jose Constanza and Wilson Valdez led off with singles, with Constanza reaching on an overturned call on the second pitch of the game. With runners at the corners, Eric Patterson drove in the game's first run on a ground out spotting York a quick 1-0 lead.

Lancaster took the lead with two in the bottom of the first. Jerry Owens and Derrick Pyles victimized Revs starter Rommie Lewis with back-to-back infield hits to lead off. A tapper back to Lewis off the bat of Kent Matthes moved both runners, and Mike McDade tied the game with another groundout. Brian Cavazos-Galvez (4-for-6) gave Lancaster a 2-1 lead with a two-out RBI single to right.

The Barnstormers added to that lead as Owens picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice ground ball in the fourth, making the score 3-1.

York totaled exactly two hits in each of the first four innings but stranded a total of nine runners during that stretch, as they were held to just one run. That changed in the fifth as the Revs ripped off four straight hits to score three runs, taking a 4-3 lead. Andres Perez led things off with a single to left, while Bryan Pounds crushed a ground-rule double to deep left-center. Mikey Reynolds drove in a run on an infield single, and Salvador Paniagua gave York the lead with a two-run double, chopped hard down the third base line.

Lewis worked a strong seven innings, giving up just three runs, while reliever Luis Perdomo fired a perfect eighth inning as the Revs took the one-run lead to the ninth.

Closer Mike DeMark retired Owens on a ground out to begin the ninth inning, but pinch-hitter Kevin Rivers tied the game at 4-4 with a solo homer lined to right-center. Matthes followed with a walk and was on base when Cavazos-Galvez nailed a drive to deep left, but James Simmons made a game-saving over-the-shoulder running grab, sending the game to extras.

Neither team would budge until the 13th, when Patterson greeted reliever Blake Hassebrock with a single to left. Brandon Boggs followed with a grounder to third but Matthes, a regular outfielder playing at third due to injuries, threw the ball into right field to put runners at the corners. Perez worked a walk to load the bases, and with the infield in, Pounds chopped a grounder to second, but Yusuke Kajimoto's throw home was in the dirt and skipped past catcher Juan Apodaca allowing the go-ahead run to score. Hassebrock recorded a strikeout for the first out, but pinch-hitter Yeicok Calderon drove in a run on a groundout to second for a 6-4 lead. Simmons then blew it wide open with a two-run double down the left field line. Constanza kept the rally going with a walk, before Valdez hit a dribbler that Hassebrock threw away into the right field corner, allowing two more to score on the fourth error of the night on Lancaster, and third throwing error of the 13th inning.

Stephen Penney fired a scoreless inning to close it out, striking out Kajimoto looking to end the game. It followed scoreless innings in extras from Josh Judy, Tony Pena, and Edward Paredes (4-1) who earned the win. Paredes struck out Zach Collier to end the 12th with the winning run at second after a double from Cavazos-Galvez.

Notes: The Revs hand the Barnstormers their first series loss of the second half, and their first set of back-to-back losses in the month of August. The six-run 13th inning is the biggest extra inning in club history and ties the biggest inning in franchise history, ninth inning or later. At four hours and 40 minutes, it is the Revs' longest game of the season and fifth longest in franchise history. It is the Revs' longest since the 2011 season. It is the first time the Revs and Barnstormers have played a game longer than 11 innings head-to-head. The extra-inning game is the Revs' sixth in the last 14 contests. The Revs have played 144 innings in the last 14 games (10.3 per game). Of York's 14 extra-inning games, 11 have lasted more than 10 innings. York's 66 plate appearances establish a club record for a single game. Patterson becomes the first in Revs history to total eight at-bats in a game. York pitchers threw 205 total pitches, while the Barnstormers combined to throw 237 pitches in the game. The 19 hits by the York offense is a season-high. The Revs win despite a franchise record-tying 17 left on base, their most in a game since a 13-inning victory in 2007. Rivers' pinch-hit homer was only the second allowed in club history and first since 2012. York improves to 8-6 in extra-inning games this season, adding to a club record in extra-inning wins and extra-inning games (14). The Revs improve to 18-11 in last at-bat decisions.
