York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.): "Eventive," the dedicated special events arm of the York Revolution is organizing the annual York Halloween Parade for a third consecutive year. Scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday, October 25, this event is once again presented by York Traditions Bank, official Eventive community events partner.
Also returning for 2015 is the tradition of window painting in Downtown York leading up to the parade, a partnership of Maple Donuts and FlipSidePA. In the spirit of pairing Halloween, autumn and delicious donuts, the theme of the art submissions will be "Donut Monster," or "Spooky Donut-scapes."
Any artist may submit their entry to be selected, and ultimately the top 10 submissions will be chosen to be painted on the windows of Downtown businesses, from Royal Square, to WECO, to the Market District, all the way to North George Street in the neighborhood of Santander Stadium.
The steps to have a design selected for painting are:
- Submit your design entry as a sketch, in JPEG format, to FlipSidePA.com/windowart from now until September 15.
- By September 18, the top 20 entries will be determined, and then made available to vote on, on FlipSidePA.com/windowart.
- From September 18-30, the 20 entries will be voted on, determining a top 10.
- The top 10 most popular selections will be revealed October 1-7 and given their painting location and time by the York Revolution.
- All windows Downtown will be painted from October 8-14, and on display through the parade on October 25 until November 2.
Artist's submissions may take liberty with the creative aspect, as long as donuts are involved! Any variation on the sample donut monster pictured below will work, as will any "donut landscapes" with a "scary Halloween theme." The renewed tradition of students painting Downtown windows in a Halloween theme leading up to the York Halloween Parade dates back to the 90s.
"Growing up in York in the 90s, schoolmates and I used to look forward to riding the bus through town past all of the cool Halloween murals that high school students painted on storefronts," said Adam Nugent, Director of Eventive. Â "With the momentum continuing to build in our downtown neighborhoods, we've teamed up with Maple Donuts to bring that October excitement back to a new generation of students - and a few generations of nostalgic adults too."
