(Bridgeport, Ct- August 27, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (25-22, 51-66) were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers (29-18, 57-60) 12-3 in the opener of a four-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday night. Bridgeport is now once again in a three-way tie for first place in the Second Half of the Liberty Division Standings with the Somerset Patriots and Long Island Ducks.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Robert Carson (5-2) suffered the loss, lasting four innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned runs), on six hits, walking five while striking out one and throwing a wild pitch. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Madison Boer (2-2) picked up the win, tossing eight strong innings, allowing three runs on nine hits, walking two and striking out four in 133 pitches thrown.

Lancaster got to Carson quickly, sending nine men to the plate in the top half of the first inning plating four runs on four hits to take a 4-0 edge and never looked back. Kent Matthes laced a two-run double, scoring Jerry Owens and Yusuke Kajimoto, and three batters into the ballgame the Barnstormers were up 2-0. Brian Cavazos-Galvez would drive home Matthes with a run-scoring base-knock, and would later advance to third on a double steal with Lance Zawadzki as the trail runner and eventually score on a throwing error by Jobduan Morales. Bridgeport would crack the scoreboard in the home half of the fourth off Boer on an RBI double by Morales, plating Andres Rodriguez who led off the frame with a double of his own.

The Barnstormers would bat around for the second time on the evening in the seventh inning, again scoring four runs on four hits to extend the advantage to 12-1. The big blow was a bases-clearing double by Charlie Cutler, his only hit of the contest. Cutler would score on a run-scoring two-base hit by Kajimoto, and the visitors were in complete control. The Bluefish would add a pair of runs in the home half of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Welington Dotel, scoring Josh Prince. Dotel would later come in to score on a run-scoring infield base knock by Jeudy Valdez, but that was all the 'Fish could muster up as they had their four-game winning streak snapped. All-Star Bryan Sabatella led the way for Bridgeport with three more hits, extending his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games dating back to August 8th combined with both the Bluefish and Long Island Ducks.

Bridgeport continues their series against the reigning Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Champion Lancaster Barnstormers at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, August 28th. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Bluefish players will wear special Sikorsky Jerseys to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.
