York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution defeated the Long Island Ducks 3-2 on Tuesday night, led by starter Matt DeSalvo who earned his fourth consecutive win and a lockdown effort from the bullpen. With York's win and Lancaster's loss, the Revs move half a game ahead of the Barnstormers for first place, holding sole possession of the Freedom Division's top spot for the first time since May 13, with five remaining in the first half. The final game of the series will be played Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium, before the Revs and Barnstormers meet for four games head-to-head to close out the half this weekend.

The Revolution struck first to give them an early 1-0 lead when 2B Ramon Castro blasted a line drive solo homer to left-center in the bottom of the first, making it back-to-back games he's hit a home run.

Long Island tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning when LF Ray Navarrete walked to get on base and scored on a deeply hit double by 2B Javier Colina.

York got some help from the Ducks in the bottom of the fourth. 3B Vince Harrison and LF Val Majewski led off the inning with singles and Harrison scored when Colina misplayed a ground ball hit by SS Eric Eymann. A couple of pitches later Majewski was brought home when Long Island's starter Mike Parisi threw a wild pitch to give the Revolution a 3-1 lead.

The Ducks pulled within one in the sixth inning when RF Matt Esquivel jacked a solo homer over the left-center field wall to make it a 3-2 game.

But York had all the offense they needed as DeSalvo pitched a strong game earning the win (5-3) while only giving up two runs and striking out seven in 6.2 innings. Reliever Sean Stidfole recorded the final out of the seventh and Ricardo Gomez fired a flawless eighth inning. Revolution closer Michael Nix pitched the ninth, striking out Dan Lyons with the tying run on first to notch his seventh save of the season.

Notes: The Revs improve to 11-3 in one-run games on the season. DeSalvo has now pitched six innings or more in eight straight starts, and has thrown at least 100 pitches in all eight. York has won 16 of their past 19 games at home, and 16 of their last 22 overall. Harrison has extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the fourth and has collected hits in 25 of his last 26 games. Majewski has now scored 18 times in the last twelve games, leading the league with 52 runs scored. York's Chris Cody (6-4, 5.10) will face Long Island's Joselo Diaz (3-4, 5.74) in the series finale Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m., with a Wing Wednesday at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
