
Yan Returns to Park City

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 5, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Esteban Yan. The former Major Leaguer returns after beginning the 2011 season with Laguna of the Mexican League.
"We are thrilled to have Esteban back with the ball club," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He had great success in Bridgeport the last two seasons, and we look forward to him bolstering our pitching staff once again."
In nine appearances (five starts) for the Vaqueros de la Laguna earlier this season, Yan posted a 3-3 record with a 5.65 ERA and 40 strikeouts over 36.2 innings of work.
Esteban returns to the Bluefish for his third season in the Atlantic League and 20th of professional baseball. Last year, he made six starts for the 'Fish after joining the team in August from Mexico City of the Mexican League. The 37 year-old went 3-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 35.1 innings.
In 2009, Yan took the mound for 26 games (23 starts) during his debut in Bridgeport, finishing 11-6. He became one of the premier pitchers in the Atlantic League, ranking second and also setting a career-high in complete games (six), third in ERA (3.29), fourth in innings pitched (164.1) and fifth in wins (11).
The righthander made his Major League debut in 1996 as a member of the Baltimore Orioles, appearing in four contests. The following season, the Dominican native was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the expansion draft. He would spend five years with Tampa Bay, with his best season coming in 1998. In 64 outings, the 34-year-old posted 3.86 ERA with five wins, one save and 77 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched. Over the course of his big league career, Yan has also pitched for the Rangers, Cardinals, Tigers, Angels and Reds. He has appeared in 217 Major League games (118 starts), recording 33 victories, 51 saves and 553 strikeouts in 695 innings of work.
