Revs Stymied Offensively In Return Home
May 19, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution received seven walks but could only muster three base hits, falling 4-1 to the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday night in front of 4,382 fans at Santander Stadium in their return home, opening a seven-game homestand. The Revs will look to even things as the series continues on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Lew Ford stole the show offensively for Long Island. With the game scoreless in the top of the fifth, Ford drove a two-run double to the fence in right field to open the scoring, giving Long Island the 2-0 advantage. Then with the lead trimmed to 2-1, Ford connected on a two-run homer to right, providing the eventual final margin. All four runs were driven in with two outs, as Ford went 3-for-4 and reached base four times. The league leader in RBI has now driven in 27 on the season, including 20 over his last 12 games.
York's best chance came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Down 2-0, the Revs received a pair of walks to start the inning as Brandon Jones and Mikey Reynolds both reached. After a failed bunt attempt for the first out, Eric Patterson drew a walk to load the bases with one away. Reliever Bruce Kern entered and uncorked a wild pitch to plate Jones to make it a one-run game. Kern rebounded to record a fielder's choice, and after a walk to Brandon Boggs loaded the bases again, reliever Patrick Crider struck out Johan Limonta looking to leave the bases loaded.
Long Island used eight relievers on the night, piecing together the nine-inning workload.
Starter Andrew Barbosa went three innings in his first start of the season, and overcame a three-walk third inning to keep things scoreless.
Eric Niesen (1-2) picked up the win as the first reliever out of the bullpen. Niesen allowed one run after walking three in the sixth inning, but was able to last 2.1 innings.
Amalio Diaz picked up his first save with a scoreless ninth inning.
York starter Shawn Hill (1-2) suffered the loss, charged with two runs on seven hits in five innings. Hill escaped trouble throughout the night, keeping the game scoreless until the fifth.
Hill's first escape came in the first inning when Bryan Sabatella led off with an infield hit and stole second with no outs but did not advance as Hill set down the next three batters. Erik Komatsu led off the third with a double, but also could not advance. A pair of singles from Ford and Cody Puckett began the fourth, but again Hill was able to escape, leaving both in scoring position.
Notes: York has dropped six straight home games tying a club record (also July 7-16, 2012), while having won four of its last five and seven of its last nine on the road. Reynolds walked twice but was held hitless in two at-bats, snapping a 12-game hitting streak; it was the league's longest active and fell one short of matching the league's longest of the season. York's seven walks tied a season-high (April 29 vs. Lancaster). York falls to 1-3 vs. Long Island this season. The Revs will send right-hander Anthony Lerew (2-1, 2.14) to the mound on Wednesday against Long Island righty Mark Rogers (1-2, 4.82) with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. It is LAX Night and Revolution Trivia Night as fans who correctly answer Revs trivia in front of the crowd win memorabilia and other prizes. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
