Revs Finish Off Series Win In Sugar Land With Come-From-Behind Victory
May 19, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution came back from an early deficit to top the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-2 on Monday evening in front of 3,500 fans at Constellation Field. The Revs have now won back-to-back games, taking two of three in their series against the Skeeters, while finishing their road trip with a 4-2 record, having won four of the last five. The Revs will return home to open a seven-game homestand, beginning on Tuesday night against the Long Island Ducks.
The Revs fell behind early as Dustin Martin connected on a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the first inning, spotting the hosts an early 2-0 lead. York scored the final five runs of the game in unanswered fashion, however, notching their fifth comeback win out of 10 total victories, and their first by more than one run down.
York got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. Wilson Valdez led off the frame with a triple down the right field line and scored with one out on a single to left-center by Andres Perez, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Revs then tied it an inning later, as Salvador Paniagua ripped an RBI double down the left field line with two outs to knot things at 2-2.
Revs starter Corey Thurman kept the game tied over 4.2 innings, overcoming five hits and five walks to allow only two runs. Thurman worked out of bases loaded jams in the third and fourth innings, escaping unscathed both times.
The Revs took their first lead of the night in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs to culminate a two-out rally. Bryan Pounds kept the inning alive with a two-out walk, and Brandon Jones perfectly executed a hit-and-run with a base hit past shortstop. Paniagua then smacked an RBI single up the middle for the go-ahead run, and Mikey Reynolds followed with another run-scoring knock through the middle, giving the Revs a 4-2 advantage.
York plated an insurance run in the ninth on three consecutive base hits. Johan Limonta led things off with a single to right and Pounds followed with a single toward the right field line, reaching base for the third time on the night. Limonta took third, drawing a throw from right fielder Denny Almonte. Pounds was thrown out attempting to take second, but it set up an opportunity for Jones who cashed in with an RBI single to center on the Revs' tenth hit of the night.
Matt Neil (1-0) earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings out of the York bullpen. Leyson Septimo, Stephen Penney, and Julio DePaula all followed with scoreless innings to nail down the victory, with DePaula claiming his second save.
Notes: It is the Revs' first series win in Sugar Land since winning four of six to close the 2013 regular season. The Revs have won seven of their last nine on the road and have won three consecutive road series, improving to 7-6 on the road after an 0-4 start. The Revs took two of three at both stops on their road trip to Camden and Sugar Land, despite dropping the opening game of each series. The rain-shortened six-game trip concludes a stretch on which York played 13 of 17 games on the road. York improves to 10-13 overall, moving half a game in front of Sugar Land (10-14) for sole possession of second place, as they now reside in second by themselves for the first time since April 29. Reynolds' seventh inning single extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games. Perez (2-for-4) extended his hitting streak to seven games. The Skeeters have dropped nine of their last 11 overall. With 10 hits, the Revs posted double digits in the hit column for the fourth consecutive game, their longest streak of the season. Thurman's start marked his 400th career minor league appearance and 180th with York. Righty Shawn Hill (1-1, 3.79) makes the start for York in Tuesday's opener at 6:30 p.m. It is Martial Arts Night, and York City School District Night presented by Harrisburg University. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
