Barnstormers, Ducks Play To Tie

May 19, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

The last time a Barnstormer homered to right center field in the pouring rain, it determined the 2014 Atlantic League Championship. When Blake Gailen connected on Monday night, it left everything completely undecided.

Gailen slammed a game-tying home run to right center field with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Following a walk to Brian Cavazos-Galvez, play was halted, and the Barnstormers and the Ducks will resume the game in a 3-3 tie at a yet-to-be-determined date.

Lancaster fell behind, 3-0, in the third. Reegie Corona blooped a one-out single to left and raced to third on a hit-and-run base hit to right by Lew Ford. Cody Puckett connected for a home run to left off Matt Packer, putting the Ducks on top.

Ian Marshall retired nine straight following a leadoff single in the game by Yusuke Kajimoto, but the Long Island right-hander issued a leadoff walk to Tyler Bortnick in the fourth. Two outs later, Kevin Rivers singled up the middle to drive in the run and took second on Ford's throw to the plate. Keith Castillo brought Lancaster within one with a double over the head of first baseman Jon Griffin.

Shunsuke Watanabe struck out Bryan Sabatella with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth to keep the deficit at one.

Marshall got Bortnick on a grounder to short in the sixth before Gailen gave his 1-0 pitch the game-tying ride.

Lancaster will entertain Sugar Land on Tuesday at 7:00. Bryan Evans (1-2) gets the start for Lancaster against newcomer Josh Geer. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN, rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Gailen's home run is his 56th as a Barnstormer, tying him with Ryan Harvey for third on the all-time list, although it will not officially count until the game is completed...Infielder Michael Broad was placed on the disabled list with a broken hand earlier in the day.
