New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution announced today that the club has completed the signing of goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg. A native of Mesa, Arizona, Spangenberg joins the Revs after being on trial with the club throughout the preseason. Per club and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Spangenberg is in his second season in MLS after spending the 2014 campaign in Southern California with Chivas USA. Signed by the club in March 2014, he appeared in one league game for Chivas USA, playing the final 22 minutes in a home loss to the Houston Dynamo on May 3, 2014 after starting goalkeeper Tim Melia was sent off. He made one save in his time on the field while also conceding one goal.
Prior to signing with Chivas USA, Spangenberg played collegiately at Missouri State University. The 23-year-old left school as the Bears' all-time leader with a 0.67 goals against average and ranks fourth with 17 career clean sheets. He enjoyed his best season as a senior in 2013, tying a school record with 11 shutouts, including seven in a row to help lead his side to the Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship. He allowed just eight goals in 18 games that season, registering a school record 0.41 goals against average.
The Revolution open the 2015 MLS season on Sunday, March 8 when they face Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. That game, which will be shown nationally on FOX Sports 1, kicks off at 9:30 p.m. ET. Season tickets for the Revs' 2015 season are on sale and start at $351 for lower bowl seating, which allows extraordinary access to the Revolution at Gillette Stadium. The 18-game season ticket package includes a host of amenities and special access events with the team.
