Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, March 5, 2015) - As part of Major League Soccer's third annual Jersey Week, the Colorado Rapids Soccer Club unveiled their new secondary kit for the 2015 season on Thursday night at the Season Kickoff Party at Tavern Downtown.
The new gold kit, both long sleeve and short sleeve, is now available for pre-order for men, women and youth. Using adidas' adizero engineering, the kit is the lightest in the history of the sport.
"The idea of incorporating the state flag colors into the jersey is to show the pride that we have for our fans and for the state of Colorado," said Wayne Brant, Senior Director of Marketing and Fan Development. "The 'Colorado for Life' notion is a fresh look that resonated well with our fans."
The gold demonstrates the characteristic colors of the emblematic Colorado state flag. In addition, the Colorado "C" is embossed directly into the front of the shirt. The full state flag will also be incorporated in the lower left front corner of the jersey.
The #RapidsJersey celebration featured players in the full primary and secondary kit, and marked the first time fans were able to see the new uniform on players while enjoying a special night on the town mingling with members of the new and revamped first-team and coaching staff.
The full secondary uniform will be worn for the Rapids' road matches, including Saturday's season opener against Philadelphia Union at PPL Park. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. MT with coverage of the match beginning at 1:30 p.m. MT on Altitude.
The Rapids will keep their traditional burgundy jersey for all home games throughout the season, wearing it for the first time in two weeks when the Rapids host their 2015 Home Opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, March 21 against New York City FC at 2 p.m. MT.
