York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution saw their five-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, losing the opening game of their series at Long Island 5-4 to the Ducks in front of 5,405 fans at Bethpage Ballpark. The Revs, with their division lead now at 2.0 games, will look to even things when the series continues on Friday night.

Long Island grabbed a first inning lead with a two-out RBI single to left by Lew Ford, and pushed that lead to 3-0 in the third when Javier Colina connected on a two-run homerun that hooked inside the left field foul pole.

The Revs tied it with a three-spot in the fourth. Chris Walker scored on Bryant Nelson's double play grounder to get the Revs on the scoreboard, and Chris Nowak followed with a two-run homer to left-center that nearly hit the scoreboard, his 18th of the season, evening the ledger at 3-3.

The Ducks quickly retook the lead as Matt Esquivel led off the bottom of the fourth with a homer to left, and after Dan Lyons singled to extend the inning with two outs, Kennard Jones drove an RBI double to straightaway center, lifting the Ducks to a 5-3 lead.

Octavio Martinez hammered his first homerun of the season leading off the top of the fifth to bring the Revs within one, but neither team scored the rest of the way.

Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann (1-1) earned the win allowing four runs in five innings against his former team in his first start of the season.

York starter Shaun Garceau (4-7) took the loss, charged with five runs in his six innings of work.

Ehren Wassermann tossed two scoreless innings for the Ducks bullpen, and Bubbie Buzachero followed with two scoreless frames of his own for his 18th save.

York's Zac Cline kept the game close, pitching a scoreless seventh and eighth in relief.

Notes: The Revs fall to 16-8 in one-run games. Nowak's 18th homerun ties the fifth most in a single season in York history; it was his 13th in just 37 games in the second half. Walker stole his 22nd base of the season in the eighth inning, the second-highest single-season total in Revs history. York's five-game winning streak was their fourth winning streak of five or longer this season. The Revs will send Dumas Garcia (1-2, 6.23) to the mound on Friday night, opposite Ducks lefty Dave Williams (1-2, 4.35). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, Shoutcast.com (WPDC) and YorkRevsTV.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
