Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 25, 2011) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-16, 56-47) collected 17 hits against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (18-20, 56-47) leading to a 15-4 victory on Thursday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Bridgeport's offense produced throughout the night. Brock Peterson had four hits, scored twice and drove in three runs. The designated hitter also had a pair of doubles. Wes Bankston smacked his 22nd homer of the season which ranks second among Atlantic League players this season. The first baseman earned three hits, came home twice, and collected three RBI. Andres Perez smacked three doubles, scored twice, and drove in three Bluefish runners. Michael Moras also earned three hits while Adam Greenberg touched home plate three times.
The Bluefish scored the first twelve runs before Southern Maryland broke the shutout in the seventh. Travis Garcia hit a three-run shot to left in the eighth; but the Blue Crabs could not get closer as the home team picked up three insurance runs.
Esteban Yan (1-3) had his strongest outing for the Bluefish as he lasted eight innings and surrendered four runs. Antonio Alfonseca pitched the final frame.
Joe Gannon (1-2) suffered the loss for the Blue Crabs as the righthanded starter gave up twelve runs in five-and-one-third-innings.
The Bluefish continue a three game home series against Southern Maryland on Friday. First pitch at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Piggy Bank Giveaway is presented by People's United Bank.
