York Revolution News Release
Have a game, Bryan Pounds and the Revolution!
The Revs won in dramatic fashion at Santander Stadium on Jurassic Park Night, defeating the Skeeters 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth when Atlantic League All-Star Bryan Pounds lined an opposite field single into right field to put the Revs in the win column. Pounds also homered and finished with three RBI, leading the Revs to a much-needed victory.
Matt Neil started the game for the Revs and came out of the gates firing, striking out four of the first seven batters he faced. Ultimately, Neil pitched an efficient game, going five innings and allowing three earned runs in the no-decision.
The Revs put up the crooked number they have been looking for all homestand in the third off of Skeeters starter Josh Geer, scoring six runs in the frame to take a 6-0 lead. Eric Patterson got the scoring going by singling home Luis De La Cruz, and with the bases loaded, Geer hit Brandon Boggs in the foot to force home a run, the second time he's been hit with the bases loaded to score a run in six games. Pounds then added a run with a sacrifice fly, which brought up Nick Ferdinand, who came through with the biggest hit of the inning, annihilating a Geer fastball over the Arch Nemesis for a three run homer. The home run was Ferdinand's 8th of the season and it gave the Revs a 6-0 lead at the time.
However, that lead would disappear very quickly the following inning, as a Patrick Palmeiro double off the right field wall scored two off of Neil, while an errant Mikey Reynolds throw to third to try and nail Johan Limonta allowed a third run to score. A Renny Osuna groundout pushed home another run, making the score 6-4.
Pounds got one of those runs back, following Ferdinand's lead and smashing a solo homer over the Arch Nemesis, his 3rd of the season, extending York's lead to 7-4 in the fifth.
Dan Bartlett entered the game in the sixth, but had a rough outing in his Revs debut, giving up three runs highlighted by a two run bomb by Amadeo Zazueta to tie the game at seven.
The score would stay deadlocked at seven until the bottom of the ninth, which would set the stage for the victory. Reynolds led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Wilson Valdez. After an intentional walk to Patterson to set up a double play opportunity, Brandon Boggs hit a one-hopper to short and beat out the relay to avoid an inning ending double play. Pounds then sent the Revolution crowd home happy, lining an opposite field single into right off of reliever Robbie Weinhardt (1-2) to give the Revs an 8-7 win.
The Revs look to split the series with the Skeeters Thursday on Camp Day, featuring an 11 AM start with, lefty Rommie Lewis (5-7, 3.89) taking the hill for the Revs, facing Skeeters righty Sean Gallagher (1-7, 3.39).
Notes: The walk-off win is the fifth of the season for the Revs and second in as many victories in the second half. Pounds scored the winning run in Friday's walk-off win to open the second half. His three RBI tied a season-high for the third time. York's bullpen was brilliant down the stretch, as Edward Paredes, Tony Pena, and Ty'Relle Harris (1-0) all worked scoreless innings. Andres Perez ripped an eighth inning single, giving him 382 hits in his Revs career; his next hit will tie James Shanks' franchise record of 383. Valdez' clutch sacrifice bunt in the ninth was the 32nd of his Revs career, two shy of tying the club record of 34 held by Keoni DeRenne.
