Blue Crabs Fall in Game Two

(Bridgeport, C.T. July 15th 2015) ---Southern Maryland had their six game winning streak snapped today, losing to the Bridgeport Bluefish by the final of 4-2 in a special 11 A.M. start time.

Bridgeport scored three early runs in the first and second inning combined. In the bottom of the first, Josh Prince doubled, and that was followed by Bryant Nelson single to put runners at the corners. The next hitter Wellington Dotel grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, but scored Prince to make it 1-0 Bridgeport.

Southern Maryland countered in the top of the second with a run of their own. After a Gustavo Molina ground rule double, Jake Opitz singled to drive in Molina to make it 2-1. In the bottom of the second inning, Andres Rodriguez came to the plate with one out and lashed a single to right to put a runner on base. The next hitter Wilson Batista drove a homerun over the wall in left to bring the score to 3-1.

Fast forward to the bottom of the eighth, Wellington Dotel singled with one out. John Alonso then banged a single to center to put two runners on base. Jobduan Morales grounded into a fielder's choice to score Dotel to make it 4-1. In the top of the ninth, a Casey Frawley sacrifice-fly scoring Grant Zawadzki brought the Blue Crabs within two runs, but were quickly shut down by Patrick Mincey, as Bridgeport held on for the 4-2 victory.

Blue Crabs starter Brian Grening, took the loss, going seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. After losing to Southern Maryland back on June 6th, LHP Scott Maine picked up his third win of the year, going 5.1 innings, allowing a run on four hits. Bridgeport out hit the Blue Crabs by a 9-8 mark for the game.

After last night's ballgame was rained out, Southern Maryland and Bridgeport will play a doubleheader beginning tomorrow evening at 6:05 P.M. The second ballgame will start approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first, and both games will be seven innings long.
