York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution wrapped up their homestand with a come-from-behind 10-4 victory over the Somerset Patriots on Monday night, earning the 300th win in franchise history in front of 4,888 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Chris Nowak blasted a three-run homer, James Shanks drilled a two-run triple, and Jesus Sanchez fired five strong innings in the victory. The Revs now embark on a six-game road trip that opens in Camden on Tuesday night.
It was an ominous beginning for the Revs who were coming off Sunday's doubleheader sweep and attempting to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Patriots. Somerset scored three times on four consecutive hits to begin the game before Sanchez could record an out. After Elliott Ayala led off with a triple off the right field fence, Fernando Cortez lined an RBI single to right-center, Jeff Nettles nailed an RBI double to left-center, and Josh Pressley struck a sharp ground single to right-center to give Somerset a 3-0 head start. Sanchez came back to retire Matt Hagen on a double play, however, and did not allow a run the rest of the night.
After stranding a pair of runners in each of the first two innings, the Revs got to Patriots starter Derrick Gordon in the third inning, ripping off a four-spot to go in front 4-3. Ramon Castro doubled down the right field line to ignite the rally, the 100th double of his Atlantic League career. Jose Herrera then worked a walk before Shanks drove in a run on a single to left-center to get the Revs on the board. Nowak followed with a no-doubt three-run homer to deep left giving York the lead for good.
The Revs then blew it open with three more the following inning, chasing Gordon in the process. Herrera drove in a run on a groundout to first base before Shanks drove a two-run triple to the gap in right-center extending the lead to 7-3.
Herrera lined a sac fly to left in the sixth inning and Chris Walker slapped an RBI single to left field in the seventh capping a stretch of nine unearned runs scored by the Revs.
John Pachot's RBI groundout in the top of the eighth provided Somerset's final tally, while Vince Harrison roped an RBI single to left-center in the bottom of the eighth for York's final score.
Sanchez (2-2) earned the win, allowing just two hits in his final four innings of work, retiring 10 of 11 batters at one point. He was charged with three runs in five innings, while walking only one and striking out five.
Gordon (7-3) suffered his second consecutive loss for Somerset, charged with a season-high five runs in three-plus innings, his shortest start of the year. He walked a season-high five while allowing five hits.
York's 14-hit attack was led by Walker who tied a Revs season-high with four hits in the game, his third four-hit game of the season. He scored twice and has now crossed the plate 21 times in his last 20 games played. Harrison matched his personal season-high with a three-hit night for his team-best 32nd multi-hit game of the year.
Nettles went 4-for-5 leading Somerset's 13-hit output. His third hit, a single in the seventh, was his 900th hit in the Atlantic League, becoming just the second player in league history to reach the mark.
Notes: Not only was the victory the 300th in club history, it was also the 175th for the Revs all-time at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs avoided a sweep with a win in the series finale for the second consecutive series, and fourth time in the last six series. York finished the homestand with a 4-5 record, remaining half a game behind Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division's second half, and half a game in front of Bridgeport for any wild card race. The offensive explosion came one day after being held to a combined one run in a doubleheader sweep; it's the third consecutive time dating to last season that the Revs have followed a stretch of back-to-back games combining for just one run by erupting for double-digits in the next contest. York improves to 8-4 against Somerset on the season, notching five of the eight wins in comeback fashion. Of 49 overall wins, it was the 25th that has occurred in comeback fashion on the year. Revs righty Dumas Garcia (0-1, 4.91) faces Camden lefty J.R. Mathes (3-4, 5.25) in Tuesday's series opener at Campbell's Field at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
