Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 8, 2011) -The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 10-9 on Monday night in the rubber game of the three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Lancaster plated the first run of the game on Matt Watson's solo home run in the second inning off Ducks' starter Joselo Diaz. Long Island answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame off Barnstormers' starter Yunior Novoa. RBI doubles by Erick Monzon and Dan Lyons, along with a run-scoring groundout by Kraig Binick gave the Ducks a 3-1.

However, Lancaster stormed back for a single run in the fourth and four in the fifth to retake the lead. RBI singles from Brandon Jordan and Tommy Everidge, a run-scoring passed ball, and a two-run double by Travis Metcalf highlighted the damage. The Barnstormers plated four more in the sixth to extend the lead to 10-3. Watson's run-scoring single, Aaron Herr's RBI double, and a two-run double by Jones accounted for the scoring.

The Ducks would not go down without a fight, as they put up a six-spot in the eighth inning. A RBI single by J.R. House, a sac fly from Dan Lyons, a RBI double by Ray Navarrete and a sac fly by Javier Colina helped bring the Ducks within a run, but they could not pull even.

Novoa (4-2) picked up the win, tossing five and one-third innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out eight. Diaz (5-6) took the loss after lasting just four and one-third innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. Jonah Bayliss earned his 13th save with a perfect ninth.

House led the Flock with two hits in the game, while Lyons led the way with two RBI.

The Ducks continue their homestand with a three-game series against the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish beginning on Monday. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Reusable Shopping Bags, presented by People's Alliance Federal Credit Union. Ruddy Lugo gets the start for the Ducks against Bridgeport's Esteban Yan.
