Somerset Patriots News Release
York, PA - Jose Herrera's two-run homer capped a four-run 5th inning against Josh Miller and the York Revolution held on for an 8-4 win over the Somerset Patriots in the opener of a home-and-home set at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday night.
Somerset opened the scoring with an Iggy Suarez two-RBI double in the 2nd against Celson Polanco. Somerset added a run with a Joe Burke RBI in the 4th, pushing Polanco out after just 3.2 innings, yielding four hits and three runs. It was Polanco's five walks that called for the early exit, down 3-0.
The Revolution took the lead in a heartbeat in the 5th. Miller (8-8) had allowed five hits in his first five frames but stranded four men, tallying a double play as well. But Ramon Castro drove in Liu Rodriguez and Steve Haake to cut the lead to one and one pitch later, Herrera blasted a shot over the 38-foot wall in left field to put York out in front, giving the Revolution a lead they would not relinquish. York added two in the 6th for a 6-3 lead, taking Miller out after 6.0 innings, allowing a season-high 13 hits and six runs while Somerset's offense mustered one run against the York bullpen over 5.1 innings on a Jason Belcher RBI in the 7th. Jason Richardson (3-2), AJ Murray, Vince Perkins, Sean Stidfole, and RJ Rodriguez combined to keep Somerset at bay as the Patriots stranded a season-high 15 runners on base.
Somerset (11-20, 47-54) will look to even up the series with York (15-15, 55-45) on Tuesday night as Jason Monti (2-6, 4.60) will take the bump. Coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1450 WCTC-AM and online at www.wctcam.com and www.somersetpatriots.com.
