Ducks Blast Past Sharks

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 9, 2010) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 11-7 on Monday night at Suffolk County Sports Park.

Long Island got off to a fast start with single runs in each of the first two innings off `Sharks starter Derell McCall. Ray Navarrete's solo homer in the first and Matt Esquivel's solo blast in the second gave the Flock a 2-0 advantage.

The Ducks opened the game up with a four-spot in the home third inning. A RBI single off the bat of Navarrete, two-run double by Robinson Cancel and RBI double by Matt Padgett highlighted the fateful inning.

After a two-run homer in the visitor's fourth by Teuris Olivares, the Ducks bounced back for their second-consecutive four-run inning in the home fourth. John Rodriguez' RBI single and Padgett's three-run double hit down the right field line helped push the lead to 10-2.

In the sixth, Ducks' starter Randy Keisler gave up a three-run blast to Brian Burgamy, cutting the Ducks' lead to five.

Esquivel's RBI double hit into the right-center field gap in the sixth put the hammer down as the Ducks won their second game in a row.

Keisler (1-0) earned the victory, tossing five innings, allowing four hits and five runs, with three strikeouts. McCall (7-5) absorbed the loss, surrendering seven hits and six runs in two and one-third innings of work.

The Ducks continue their four-game series against the Riversharks on Tuesday.Game time is set for 7:05 PM with the Suffolk County Sports Park gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive Reusable Shopping Bags, courtesy of People's Alliance Federal Credit Union. Daryl Harang gets the start for Long Island against the `Sharks' Mike Madsen.
